We’re thrilled to share the exciting news that our very own Director of Narrative Content, Adam Cosco secured an impressive win last night at the prestigious Lumiere Awards in Hollywood for his VR film Rose Colored.

Rose Colored is Adam’s fourth directorial outing in VR and is a 20 minute Sci-Fi short. The film is set in the not-too-distant future, with shades of Black Mirror, and was shot exclusively on 360 Designs cameras and equipment.

We’ve been enthusiastic backers of Adam since his previous VR film, the incredible… ‘Knives‘, winner of a Sitges Award, and previously nominated for a Proto Award and Lumiere Award.

For Rose Colored, Adam took home the 2018 Lumiere for Best Live Action VR film, alongside other award winners such as Bladerunner 2049 for Best Motion Picture, and Pixar’s Coco for Best 3D animated film. This is an incredible achievement for an entirely independent VR movie.

Rose Colored Image from Film

Rose Colored is an innovative Sci-Fi VR film which questions our perceptions of reality

While in pre-production Adam and Director of Photography Max Schmige turned to 360 Designs and our Mini EYE 4 camera, to realize Adam and Max’s challenging vision, which demanded extremely high quality color VR imagery.

With 16Gbps of uncompressed 4 x 4K capture, recorded on 360 Designs RecordBox™, the ability to capture such high bitrates for the demanding VFX and color grading requirements of the movie, was a critical requirement.

In addition to camera equipment and fly packs, 360 Designs also provided a range of support gear such as Kessler motion track, DIT equipment, power distribution kit and video village. The end result is an extremely rich, dynamic, vibrant, and high quality image – self-evident in the final movie.

The win for Adam is a justification for the incredible degree of hard work that we’ve witnessed him put in first-hand these past two years. We may be a little biased, but we feel Adam is arguably the most creative Director and Writer working in Cinematic VR today.

The movie would not have been possible without the support of many people, and we’d like to extend thanks to Invar Studios, and our own 360 Designs crew and extended family, who worked on the movie, including VR Supervisor Tobias Chen (who designed a unique head mounted camera rig), Max Schmige as Director of Photography, and Joe Hambley as DIT.

We are very proud to have been intimately involved in the making of Rose Colored, which you can watch in its entirety for free on VR.tube.
