The HPA Tech Retreat is a gathering of prominent chief engineers, CTO’s and technologists working in television and broadcasting, held annually in Palm Springs.
This year, 360 Designs Founder & CEO Alx Klive provided the VR keynote address to a packed audience at the Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa, who learned in most cases for the first time what is involved in producing a large scale live VR broadcast.
The presentation covered the behind-the-scenes work involved specifically in delivering last year’s ‘Racing the Sun’ VR broadcast, in partnership with CNN, which featured a number of highly technical challenges to solve. These included having 7 remote camera locations across the country, a live 360 helicopter shot, and four live 360 car shots.
